Payday loan company Speedy Cash has been criticised by the advertising watchdog for offering treats and free photos to children in an in-store event designed to attract families.

The promotion caught the eye of Martin Lewis’s MoneySavingsExpert.com, which lodged a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority.
The website complained that the promotion was irresponsible because it “trivialised” the payday loan service and targeted families with children.
Speedy Cash, which also offers services including cash for gold and cheque cashing, argued that the leaflet was aimed at demonstrating its relationship with the community.
The company said the leaflet in no way sanctioned the use of its services and products, which also included non-credit facilities.
The ASA said it concluded that “marketing an event aimed at children which took place in a store that offered services including payday loans was socially irresponsible”.
The watchdog has previously banned a Wonga radio ad and a Kerry Katona-fronted TV ad for Cash Lady.
